Hello from Denver, Colorado. I’ve realized I should really start writing about traveling more. I want to remember all of the places I’ve been and what I’ve loved about each one of them. So starting now– and perhaps I’ll try to do a bit of back-logging– I’m going to write about my explorations.
This week I am attending the Government Social Media Conference in Denver for work. Luckily for me, I happen to have an incredible friend who lives in downtown Denver, and the prices to fly out on Saturday instead of Monday were cheaper, so I was able to come explore for a bit before the conference.
I’m staying with my beautiful friend Kate, who I know from the summer I lived in Hawaii. She just moved into an incredible apartment downtown, literally walking distance from the Rockies stadium!
We had a great time Saturday evening and Sunday eating, drinking, dancing and the usual exploration and fun that occurs when we get together.
This trip is my first experience in Denver, and it is absolutely gorgeous. Although it was snowing earlier in the day Saturday, by Sunday it was sunny and 70 out. Spring is definitely in the air and the bustle around the city is evident. Check out these gorgeous trees we stumbled upon on our way to brunch.
After brunch Sunday, we took a trip out to see the Red Rocks Amphitheater which was absolutely incredible. The rock formations soaring over the valley below just gave me that overwhelming sense of “wow”. You know the type, the one that stops you in your tracks, and leaves you standing in awe of God and the beauty of his creation.
It was a non-event day at the amphitheater, but as we walked up we heard drumming vibrating through the air, and we stumbled upon an awesome hippie drumming circle, doing their thing. We climbed all the way down and then back up those million stairs. It was pretty killer with the altitude, but nothing like getting your blood flowing!
After Red Rocks we headed into the small town of Golden, Colorado which is an old mining town and also the home of Coors Brewing Company. We stopped in at at Miners Saloon for a late lunch and some brews. The food was delicious and their beer selection was extensive. I indulged in a few sours, of course. I had and Epic Tart n Juicy Sour IPA which was fantastic and I had an Anderson Valley Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose. Both were full of flavor and rather delicious.
I absolutely loved Golden, it was such a quaint little town with a rich history and cute little downtown with a river running through it. As we walked along the river and the downtown area, there were a ton of families and people out strolling along with their kids and dogs. It was awesome, but all the pups made me miss my Charlie and Goose.
One day, I’d like to move to a city or a town with more than the traffic induced nightmare that southern California has to offer. Not sure when or where God will take Jake and I… but so far, I think Colorado can be added to the list of possibilities.
I’m off now, to go drop my luggage at my hotel and then head out for some breakfast before my coworker arrives. Then a bit more exploring today, before the conference begins this evening. I’ll write more soon.
