Temecula: Wiens Family Cellars

This weekend I had the chance to head down to Temecula with some ladies from work to have a  nice Sunday afternoon of wine tasting. I’ve been able to peruse about the many wineries in Temecula a handful of times in the past few years and I’ve never been disappointed with our local southern California wineries. Even if you’re not a wine drinker, this is such a fun local outing that is a perfect way to spend any afternoon!

Let’s be honest, I’m not a wine-o in the least. I do, however, enjoy a glass or two of a moscato after a long day. The problem is that if you hand me a wine list I wouldn’t have the slightest clue as to what to pick out. This is probably why wine tasting is so much fun to me. I get to not only experience the beautiful scenery of the wineries but I get to experience all different types of wine to figure out what types of wine I enjoy.

This past weekend I went to three wineries, and I found my newest favorite. Wiens Family Cellars. One of my amazing friends that I went tasting with has a membership to Wiens, so we were able to have free tastings in their back cellar room which was definitely a plus! The Cellar room was lively with Sunday afternoon wine-o’s and even offered complimentary cheeses and crackers which just makes the tastings even more enjoyable! (it’s the little things)

We started off by tasting their Amour De L’Orange which is a sparkling wine with a slight mandarin twist. Champagne is my absolute favorite, so this sparkling wine immediately left me wanting to buy a bottle.

We continued to try several other wines and I didn’t try a single one that I didn’t like. Two of my other favorites were Clementine which is a sweet chardonnay, and their 2011 White Crowded. I was so surprised to have liked all eight or so wines that I was able to sample, and by time we left I had immediately said how excited I was that I found a winery whose wine I really loved.

Wiens has definitely left a positive impression on me and stood out from the rest of the wineries I have gone to over the past few years. If you haven’t tried their wines yet, don’t be shy and give them a try! I promise I didn’t mean to rhyme that last sentence.
